Here is this weeks Fast and Easy project....
I went to IKEA and found this awesome alarm clock and knew it needed some fine tuning! It really rings too! Lately, it seems like a microchip is usually installed to do the ringin' but not this guy! It really works! So cool!
I realize that some of you don't have an IKEA's around your diggs, but think of using any old clock and bring it back to life! Here's what I did...
Take off the handle at the top with the thumb screws. Pull off the legs by twisting to uncrew. Next, remove the three screws from the clock chassis to get to the guts! Now, don't be afraid! Just do it! The only thing to remember is to save all your parts.
Once the screws are removed the works can be removed exposing the front of the clock. Pull off the clock hands one at a time. Remove the paper face and keep as a template for the new altered face. Apply tape to the new face and adhere to clock.
Next, I cut out the flying pig from the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe paper stack and adhered it to the alarm hand of the clock. The pigs snout will now point to the alarm hour.
Next, I replaced all the hands....
Now it was time to work on the outside of the clock. I took a piece of white paper and used it as a template to find and mark all the holes.
I then transferred all these markers to my patterned paper and punched them out.
Next it was time to adhere the strip around the outside of the clock.
Last, I put the clock works back into the chassis and literally reversed the way I took it out.
So here is the finished Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shop Altered Ikea Alarm Clock! Try saying that five times fast!
I hope you give it a try...Thanks tons for looking!
Jim

Very cool Jim! I altered an alarm clock with the same papers about 2 months ago, check it out http://cassiesscraps.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/olde-curiosity-shoppe-altered-clock.html

love it Sir Jim, another fantastic project

You are so clever! We have an IKEA store about 3 miles away from our home and I love to alter things from there (mostly their mirrors). If I was to make your clock I think I'd have to use a different paper for the clock face as all those numbers in the "wrong" places would confuse my poor old brain first thing in the morning! Would it make me get up very early? - Pigs might fly!!!

Now why didn't I think of this myself a few weeks ago before I threw away an old clock,it would have been perfect for this. O well,I have to plane a trip to the nearest Ikea soon.
Thanks Jim, my list of projects to make is becoming longer and longer and longer... :-)

I love it. Not only is it the coolest clock ever, but YOU are cool for being a crafty guy. My husband will make cards for me, but most men refuse to pick up craft supplies---my friends tell me about it. So I think that you are very cool.

EEEEE! That is soooo cute! I will be doing this. I need a new clock on my desk at work and this is it.
I do think I'm going to try and put the pig on the minute hand.
Thanks JIM!

Can't believe we are doing similar projects! I've been working on a flying pig clock for about 3 weeks now... yes, I am slow! Great minds think alike! Of course mine looks nothing like yours except for the piggy on the face. May have to go hit up Ikea. These would make awesome christmas gifts!

What a GREAT clock! So artsy.

So cool. Now, who would have thought to cover an alarm clock? Well, of course, The Gentleman Crafter would. I love all of your projects, but this one is more my aesthetic. I might have to just think about what I might want to make, basket a basket themed clock...

This is brilliant! You are a genius! I saw this alarm clock at IKEA (my favourite store in the entire world) last week and they were only $2.50! I almost bought one but thought it was a little plain. THIS is inspiring. I'm going back to buy one and spruce it up. Thanks for sharing the how-to.

ok, I`m a dummy what is an Ikea store???? I have no idea at all. And what kind of glue did you use on the sides? Or did you use the double sided tape on there too?? I just love it!! I have a friend who has a medium size flying pig statue and I`ve been trying to find one. You do great work, love your ideas. I hope I can find a place on here to sign up for news letters.
Keep Crafting,
